The first day of the 2024-25 school year was officially August 21, but for me, it took place on July 22, two days after moving back to Kansas and following a five-year ministry at Victory Christian Academy in Valparaiso, IN. My wife and I moved there in the summer of 2019 after having spent most of our lives in Wichita, KS, where I served as the Headmaster at Central Christian Academy for 20 years. In all, I have served four different Christian schools in Christian education for 37 years, but I can say after only a short time here, Berean Academy is the strongest Christian school I have served at. From the quality of the Board of Directors
to the staff, students, and their families, there is a depth of commitment to Christian education that I have not found elsewhere.
This year marks Berean Academy’s 79th year of providing a quality, Christ-centered education for its students and their families. I was recently privileged to meet Gladys Wiebe. She was part of the sophomore class and the first class of students in 1946 when the school was founded. She graduated in 1949 and is part of the long and rich legacy of Berean Academy alumni.
This past summer, the Board of Directors revised the school’s mission and vision statements to shorten the number of words while maintaining fidelity to the original mission and vision statements. The new statements are as follows:
Mission: Berean Academy equips students with academic excellence, a Biblical worldview, and Christ-like character for the glory of God.
Vision: Berean Academy partners with parents and the local church to develop Christ-like disciples who grow in wisdom and knowledge for a lifetime of meaningful impact in God's world, for His glory.
Academic excellence, a biblical worldview, and promoting and modeling Christ-like character remain the foundational core elements of the school’s mission statement as we seek to glorify God. Our vision continues to focus on equipping and sending out graduates (like Gladys) who will have a “lifetime of meaningful impact in God’s world and for His glory.” As a faculty, staff, and board, we recognize that our mission and vision statements must always be carried out in partnership with the home and local church. Please pray that Berean Academy will remain faithful to its mission, vision, and core values until Christ returns.
Shepherding His Lambs,
David Funk
